Religious History Concentration
The Department of History offers a concentration in religious history particularly suited to those students who desire to learn about the historical development of the world’s major religious traditions. Now more than ever, we live in a period when both domestic and international affairs are guided in great measure by myriad religious ideas that over time have come to permeate both politics and the larger culture. Knowledge of these traditions and their historical interactions are important for an educated society in order to facilitate greater understanding and appreciation of cultural differences and similarities. For this reason, the Religious History concentration is broadly comprehensive while at the same time allowing students to focus on one particular religious tradition and to acquire a more in-depth knowledge.
