Legal History Concentration

The Department of History offers a concentration in legal history, particularly suited for majors with interest in this area and/ or those who intend to pursue a career in law. Courses in the concentration invite students to learn about the history of law from its inception through the modern era. Upon completion of the track, students should be prepared not only to make decisions about law school, but also to seek justice in our rapidly changing world.

Pre-Law & History

Undergraduates interested in becoming a lawyer should strongly consider that a history major with a strong record of academic achievement will be very competitive in the law school admissions process.

Studies show that history majors receive high scores on major standardized tests, including the GRE and the LSAT.

Comparative data from one Law Schools Admissions Test (LSAT) showed the following scores:

History majors - 154.5
English majors - 153.5
Political science majors - 151.5

Lawyers must be able to write well, to analyze complex fact patterns, and to compose persuasive arguments. History courses require these skills and provide students with the opportunity to hone them.
