Public History Concentration
The Concentration in Public History is particularly suited for majors with interest in this area who are seeking to apply their historical expertise and training in both the private and public sector. Courses in the concentration invite students to learn about the role of historians in the many fields of public history. Local museums, national parks, government agencies, and corporations all have projects that require research to design and to implement, all of which require historians with the specialized knowledge, training, and practical experience. The courses in this concentration will expose students to the field but also offer concrete training in skills such as working with others, researching and publishing historical projects with and for the public, and utilizing digital tools to investigate and showcase various research projects. Students will take the Introduction to Public History class and then choose four courses from the list of elective course
