Connecting to the Eduroam Wireless

The Eduroam wireless network is a collaborative effort among many of the world’s institutions of higher learning that provides easy roaming access to the wireless networks at partner institutions.

Visitors from other institutions may use their institutions’ login credentials to access the FAU wireless infrastructure, and FAU users may use their FAU login credentials at partner institutions. This removes the requirement for visiting professors to sign up for a courtesy account or use guest wireless at institutions they visit. A list of institutions where Eduroam can be utilized is available here.

Connecting with different operating systems

Click on the pertinent operating system to get instructions on how to get access to the Eduroam wireless network:

  1. Click on the icon that represents your wireless network on your Windows taskbar.
  2. Select eduroam and click "Connect." (Click "Connect" again if it asks you, "Continue connecting?")
  3. After clicking on "Connect", enter your university e-mail address and password.
  4. You are now connected to eduroam and you may begin to browse.

If the instructions above do not work for you, you may need to forget the network profile, then manually connect to the wireless network instead.

To delete a wireless network profile in Windows 10:

  1. Click the icon that represents your wireless network on your Windows taskbar.
  2. Click "Network & Internet settings."
  3. Click "Wi-Fi" on the left-hand side.
  4. Click "Manage known networks," then select "eduroam."
  5. Click "Forget." The wireless network profile is now deleted.

To manually connect to the eduroam network:

    1. Click on the icon that represents your wireless network and select "Network & Internet settings."
    2. Click on "Network and Sharing Center." In the middle of the window, click on "Setup a new connection or network."
    3. Click on "Manually connect to a wireless network."
    4. Set the following information, then click on "Next."

      • Network name: eduroam
      • Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
      • Encryption type: AES

  1. Click "Next," then "Change connection settings."
  2. Click on the "Security" tab near the top and click the "Settings" button next to "Microsoft: Protected EAP (PEAP)."
  3. Remove the check in the box to the left of "Validate server certificate." Then press the "Configure" button next to "Secured password (EAP-MSCHAP v2)."
  4. A smaller box will pop up. Uncheck "Automatically use my Windows logon name and password (and domain if any)." Then click the "OK" button.
  5. Left click on the icon that represents your wireless network.
  6. Select eduroam and click "Connect."
  7. Click "Connect" again if it asks you, "Continue connecting?"
  8. After clicking on "Connect", you will need to enter your university e-mail address and password.
  9. You are now connected to eduroam and you may begin to browse.

 Connecting to Eduroam Using Mac OS  
  1. Click on the Wi-Fi icon in the upper right-hand corner.
  2. Click on "eduroam."
  3. Type your university e-mail address as the username and enter your password.
  4. Click "Join."
  5. You are now connected to eduroam and you may begin to browse.

 Connecting to Eduroam Using iOS  
  1. Click on "Settings" from your home screen.
  2. Click "Wi-Fi."
  3. Select "eduroam” from the list of Wi-Fi networks.
  4. Type your university e-mail address as the username and enter your password.
  5. Click "Join."
  6. When prompted about the certificate, click "Trust."
  7. You are now connected to eduroam and you may begin to browse.

 Connecting to Eduroam Using Android  
  1. Click on "Settings" from your home screen.
  2. Click "Network & Internet."
  3. Click "Wi-Fi."
  4. Select "eduroam."
  5. Ensure PEAP is already selected for the EAP method.
  6. Select "MSCHAPV2" for Phase 2 authentication.
  7. Select "Do not validate" for the CA certificate. (Your phone will show "No certificate specified. Your connection will not be private.")
  8. Enter your university email address for the Identity.
  9. Leave Anonymous identity blank.
  10. Enter your password.
  11. Click "Save."
  12. You are now connected to eduroam and you may begin to browse.
