Desktop & Software

The Office of Information Technology (OIT) provides various levels of desktop and software support, including the following:

  • Configuration and installation of new computer systems
  • Testing and troubleshooting of computer problems
  • Software installation and upgrade
  • Data backup and migration

FAU Standard Desktop

In order to provide a universal operating environment, OIT adopted a standard desktop for FAU. This standard desktop makes it easier for University departments to share files and also allows OIT to provide better support. It is especially beneficial for the implementation of software upgrades and anti-virus updates. This standard does not restrict the choice of application software for individual users and departments.

The FAU standard desktop includes the following applications, the cost of which OIT has underwritten. If you need other software installed on your computer, you must have legal, licensed copies of the software in your possession.
