AI Glossary

Below we have compiled a list of common AI terms as well as AI tools, their purpose and how to find them.

Term Description
copilot icon Microsoft Copilot Formerly known as "Bing Chat Enterprise". A ChatGPT-style chatbot, that can generate text and images. By logging in, the system will not store history by user; each logout or new session wipes the memory.  Data stays local and is NOT uploaded to Microsoft or the public model version of Bing Chat. Inputs into Copilot are NOT added to the system's memory, database, or future answers. This helps to keep data secure within FAU.
Access Copilot with a Microsoft Edge Browser.
If you are logged into an FAU Machine, Microsfot Edge should automatically log you in to Copilot. If not logged in follow these steps:
  1. From the Copilot site, click "Sign in" at the top-right
  2. Select "work or school" for the type of account
  3. Type your full FAU email (including @fau.edu) and click NEXT
  4. Log in with your FAUNet ID and password.
  5. Above the box where you would type your question, you will see "Your personal and company data are protected in this chat" – this is how you know you are in Copilot.

claude icon Claude The text-generating AI created by Anthropic (ex-employees of OpenAI).
chatgpt icon DALL-E The image-generating AI created by OpenAI.
google gemini icon Google Gemini Formerly known as "Bard". The text-generating AI created by Google using LaMDA technology.
grammarly icon Grammarly An AI-powered writing assistant tool used to check for spelling mistakes, punctuation errors, and grammatical issues, providing instant feedback to the writer.
khanmigo icon Khanmigo Khan Academy’s GPT-powered AI, which will be integrated into Canvas/Webcourses (timeline uncertain).
Generative AI A type of AI that “generates” an output, such as text or images. Large language models like ChatGPT are generative AI.
Large Language Model (LLM) A type of software / generative AI that accesses large databases it’s been trained on to predict the next logical word in a sentence, given the task/question it’s been given. Advanced models have excellent “perplexity” (plausibility in the word choice) and “burstiness” (variation of the sentences).
Prompt Engineering The practice of crafting clear, specific instructions to elicit the best responses from AI programs. .
