The History Minor at FAU
History is a foundational discipline of the Liberal Arts, disciplines that stress the importance of maintaining independent minds and critical thinking. The Minor enables students to study the past in greater depth and to sharpen their critical thinking skills, which in turn will enhance career options. The study of History allows students to broaden their perspectives as they examine their own historical tradition and the traditions of other societies.
Advantages of the History Minor
In recent years, national studies have warned against the tendency in higher education to train students too narrowly in STEM disciplines at the expense of sufficient exposure to the humanities. Completion of the History Minor will correct this potential deficit.
Employers
highly value those who have strong verbal and written skills and PROBLEM-SOLVING abilities.

, students who complete the History Minor address the concerns of company CEOs, who have complained that college graduate hires display little skill in communicating what they do know; show ignorance of the major cultural and political trends that have shaped current market conditions and current affairs; and cannot define a problem, much less solve it. The History Minor remedies each of these concerns. Students completing the Minor are culturally literate and hence able to express conclusions in logical, clear language, and evaluate alternative courses of action.
