Safety at Highway-Rail CrossingsFMRI & Co-hosted by the WTS FAU Student Chapter In this presentation, Dr. Khattak will discuss traffic safety at highway-rail crossings in the US. These are important junctions in the transportation network where traffic crashes are more severe than crashes elsewhere on the surface transportation system. Disruptions, such as traffic crashes, at highway-rail crossings can impact the movement of people and freight on both highway and rail networks. As such, the implications of traffic crashes at these nodes are significant. Dr. Khattak will discuss recent trends in safety at highway-rail crossings in the US and present research projects undertaken to improve safety at these locations. Novel Traffic Sensing Methods and Technologies for Non-Motorized Traffic Monitoring under Challenging ScenariosFMRI & Co-hosted by the WTS FAU Student Chapter Traffic sensing is essential for collecting real-time traffic data to feed data-driven traffic control, management and modeling. The existing sensing methods and technologies work properly well for motorized traffic monitoring. However, it is still a big challenge for sensing non-motorized travelers and transit riders in today’s practice with existing traffic sensing technologies. In this presentation, Dr. Pu will introduce the novel sensing methods and technologies for non-motorized traffic monitoring using computer vision and wireless sensing technologies. Multiple challenging scenarios are identified in the research, including low-illumination conditions, limited computational resources of edge device, pedestrian re-identification, multi-task sensing, etc. Presented by Dr. Ziyuan Pu, Assistant Professor at Monash University. Where is my shipment and when will I get it?FMRI & Co-hosted by the ITE FAU Student Chapter The supply chain represents the steps it takes to get the product or service from its original state to the customer. It represents a crucial process and therefore lower transportation costs and faster production cycles must be obtained. However, during this process, different issues might occur. Based on these current supply chain issues, the presentation examines the underlying reasons for the situation, the root cause of the situation, the impacts of the supply chain meltdown, and what can be done to address the situation.
