Freight Mobility Research Institute

The Freight Mobility Research Institute (FMRI) is a Tier 1 University Transportation Center funded by the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT), and housed in the Department of Civil Environmental and Geomatics Engineering within Florida Atlantic University's College of Engineering and Computer Science.

The FMRI is a Florida Atlantic University led partnership with the Hampton University, Portland State University, Texas A&M University (College Station), University of Florida, University of Memphis, and University of Minnesota (Minneapolis).

The primary goal of the Freight Mobility Research Institute is to help strengthen the nation's economic competitiveness. read more

Dr. Sama Khazraeian
Sama will talk about some of the key International ITS projects she has worked on including: Truck Safety Information System for Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT): this project is about the design of a driver information system to reduce truck crashes in a portion of I-70 in Colorado, System Engineering Analysis (SEA) for a Traffic Management Center (TMC) design in Oklahoma, this project is on performing SEA to design a full-blown TMC in Norman Oklahoma. This includes design of the TMC space, network, consoles, staffing, etc, and Las Vegas Medical District Automated Circulator and Connected Pedestrian Safety Program, this project is about design and deployment of four self-driving shuttles in Las Vegas Medical district.

Ms. Jodi Godfrey
Ms. Godfrey will discuss the Safety Standards Development Program and the Safety Research Demonstration Program that she works on for the Federal Transit Administration, and some of the work she has completed for the Florida Department of Transportation, focused on hiring and retaining employees in the transit industry and how to recognize and respond to human trafficking situations. In total, the presentation will give attendees an idea of the type of fun they can have if they choose to focus their careers on transit safety and security.
