The FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science is internationally recognized for cutting edge research and education in the areas of Computer Science and Artificial intelligence (AI), Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Bioengineering, Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Ocean Engineering.
Research conducted by our faculty and their teams expose our students to technology innovations that push the current state of the art of the disciplines. The College research efforts are supported by the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Department of Defense (DOD), the Department of Transportation (DOT), the Department of Education (DOEd), the State of Florida, and Industry.
The FAU College of Engineering and Computer Science offers 34 degree programs at the Bachelors, Masters and Ph.D. level with a modern twist that bear specializations in areas of national priority such as artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, internet of things, transportation and supply chain management, and data science. New degree programs include Masters of Science in AI (first in FL), Bachelors and Masters of Science in Data Science and Analytics, Ph.D. in Transportation and Environmental Engineering and the new Professional Masters of Science and Ph.D. in Computer Science for working professionals.

The COECS hosted the YWCA for their STEM Day for Girls. There were approximately 75 attendees (girls ages 12-18). The day included a STEM activity provided by Verizon (another sponsor) and a "Fireside Chat," which included Dr. Nancy Romance and a College of Engineering and Computer Science student. They spoke to the girls about choosing careers in STEM.ent. -There will be women students volunteering in various capacities (registration, demonstrations, guidance).
Jack & Jill of America, Inc., an organization focused on exposing and unifying African-American children to leadership experiences, collaborated with the College of Engineering and Computer Science for their "Full STEAM Ahead" event. Approximately 30 children participated, gaining insights into rocket engineering from Nicole Cummings, FAU's 2023 Hall of Fame Inductee, and creating animated AI images under the guidance of FAU AI graduate student Melanie Roger. .
FAU Engineering hosted an initial meeting and training session for the FIRST Robotics mentors from south Florida that was held on September 23.
In future, COECS faculty and their research groups will be participating in various activities of the FIRST Robotics competition such as mentoring FIRST Robotics teams, offering them technical workshops, and connecting them with the FAU Engineering student clubs such as Women in Engineering and Computer Science, and Girls Who Code.
