Carlos Sarmiento is a licensed architect, design researcher, and technologist.
He is the founder of SRTO Architecture, which is distinguished by its local engagement, international scope, ecological awareness, and technological innovation. His work integrates experimental applications in zoning analysis, building systems, and design visualization.
Carlos has taught at Florida International University and has lectured at institutions across South Florida and the New York metropolitan area. He has taught sustainable design, engineering integration, professional practice, and early year design studios.
Prior to founding SRTO and entering academia, Carlos was a Senior Associate at Perkins Eastman, a global firm with one of the largest practices in New York City where he was based. He managed and contributed to a broad range of award-winning projects across the US, Middle East, Asia, and Latin America. Throughout his professional career he mentored numerous graduates of prestigious institutions as they entered the profession. He has collaborated with some of the most respected design firms, managed multidisciplinary teams, and led the implementation of BIM and industry-leading design technology frameworks for use in global practice
Carlos earned his MArch from the Design Research Lab at the Architectural Association in London, which he attended on a graduate bursary. He holds a professional Bachelor of Architecture degree from the University of Miami.
