To protect against evolving cybersecurity threats, Florida Atlantic University requires Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for all students, faculty, and staff accessing university systems. MFA adds a second layer of security to your FAU account by requiring a secondary method of verification—such as a mobile device or hardware token—in addition to your password.
MFA helps prevent unauthorized access, even if your password is compromised, and supports compliance with State of Florida access control policies. Enrolling in MFA is a simple but powerful way to safeguard your personal information and the university’s digital resources.
Microsoft Entra MFA
Entra MFA adds an extra layer of security when you sign in with your FAU account. Instead of just a password, you’ll also confirm your identity using the Microsoft Authenticator app—either with a push notification, a one-time code, or even biometrics like a fingerprint or face scan.

What to expect
Starting October 2025, FAU will begin using Microsoft Entra MFA for services like Outlook, Word, and Copilot. More services will be added throughout the semester.

User will begin seeing a 4P prompt to setup the Microsoft Authenticator when signing into FAU Services.

After enrolling, Entra MFA will be activated for all Microsoft apps (Outlook, Teams, Office 365, etc.). Duo will remain for non-Microsoft logins until we fully transition in the next few months.

IMPORTANT NOTE: During the transition from Duo MFA to Microsoft MFA, account holders may need both MFA applications installed and configured on their personal device.

Duo Security
While our focus is shifting to Microsoft Entra MFA, DUO will still be required for a select number of non-Microsoft applications and services during the transition period. Please keep your DUO access active to ensure uninterrupted login for all of your accounts.
How to Enroll
To enroll in Duo, use the appropriate multi-factor enrollment tool below. We recommend that you enroll using both the mobile app and a backup option for authenticating. This backup number will allow you to log in if you are unable to use your cell phone. The mobile app works across cellular data and Wireless (WiFi) as well as offline. We highly recommend this method because this application incurs no data, text (SMS), or other charges when using codes and WiFi.

Note: If you are an employee and do not have access to a smartphone, we recommend that you request a hardware key fob (FOB) by submitting a Help Desk request. You may pick up an FOB by appointment from the Help Desk in CM-22 on the Boca Raton campus, SR-291 on the Jupiter campus, or LA-303 on the Davie campus.
