Background

Dr. Daniella Orias is a Post-Doctoral Fellow in the Sociology Department and holds a PhD in Comparative Studies with a focus on Design, Aesthetics, and Arts. Her research focuses on feminist studies and on creating digital pedagogical materials that are both exploratory and informative, with particular emphasis on ecofeminism, popular culture, tarot, and design. She also completed a graduate certificate in Instructional Design and specializes in creating and teaching online courses.

Her dissertation, titled “Rooted Wisdom Ecofeminist Tarot,” investigated how integrating tarot as a pedagogical tool, specifically through the lens of ecofeminism, can create meaningful and transformative learning experiences by connecting theories with symbols, images, and reflective exercises.

She also has an M.A. in Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies and a B.A. in Anthropology, both from FAU. Prior research experience includes co-authoring the article “No One is Disposable: Ecofeminism and Climate Crisis” with Dr. Nicole Morse, and she has presented work at several conferences including the 5th Global Conference on Women’s Studies, and published a paper recently titled ““No Ifs, Ands, or Butts”: Analyzing Race and Gender in Sex and the City Through Black Feminist Theory,” in Dialogue: The Interdisciplinary Journal of Popular Culture and Pedagogy. Dr. Orias also recently led a workshop at the California Institute of Integral Studies on tarot and pedagogy.
