Matthew Sobnosky received his PhD in Speech Communication from the University of Nebraska in 1990, where is also earned in M.A. in 1986. He began his career as an assistant professor and Director of Forensics at Emerson College (1990-1997) before moving to the College of William and Mary as Director of Debate (1997-2002). From 2002-2006 he was an Associate Professor and Graduate Program Director in the Department of Speech Communication at Hofstra University, and from 2009 through 2016 he was an Associate Professor in the Department of Rhetoric at Hofstra. He joins FAU’s School of Communication and Multimedia Studies as a Visiting Instructor of Rhetoric and Civic Discourse for Academic Year 2016-2017. His research has focused on rhetorical movements, with much of it in recent years centered on public health issues, especially those involving health and sexuality.
