Mission

The mission of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice is to promote teaching and learning through challenging undergraduate and graduate programs, while instilling students with academic and professional integrity grounded in a solid ethical foundation. The School cultivates student curiosity and critical thinking through fostering student success, professional and academic development, and advancement. The programs produce collaborative and meaningful scholarship that contributes to society and promotes social responsibility through engagement with members of the CCJ community and general public.

Vision

The vision of the School of Criminology and Criminal Justice is three-fold:

  1. To establish a nationally-recognized program in criminology and criminal justice by increasing media mentions and developing a specific marketing plan, developing community engagements, increasing quality publications, securing national-level grants, hiring quality faculty, establishing a presence at the American Society of Criminology (ASC) and Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences (ACJS), encouraging and funding ASC and ACJS conference presentations, and establishing support for mentoring and collaboration.
  2. To develop a terminal degree in criminal justice/criminology with an advanced curriculum, graduate assistantships and fellowships, and resources from the College and University.
  3. To secure external funding by incentivizing and rewarding grant writing, developing an applied research center and/or survey center, facilitating collaborative partnerships with local agencies, and encouraging faculty collaboration
