Data Engineering Hackathon

Data Engineering for All of Us: Precision Medicine Hackathon

Florida Atlantic University students are invited to participate in the Data Engineering for All of Us Precision Medicine Hackathon, a 24-hour challenge focused on solving real-world healthcare data engineering problems.

Date: Friday, April 3, at 5:00 PM – Saturday, April 4, at 5:00 PM

Register Here

During the hackathon, student teams will use data from the All of Us Research Program, a large national health dataset, to design innovative solutions that support precision medicine and personalized healthcare.

Participants will explore challenges such as:

  • Managing massive and complex healthcare datasets
  • Designing tools and workflows for secure and efficient data use
  • Addressing fairness and bias in predictive health models
  • Developing scalable solutions for healthcare data analysis

How It Works

Students will work in teams of 3–5 participants to identify a challenge within the dataset and develop a proposed solution. Teams may:

  • Build a software prototype
  • Design a data architecture or engineering workflow
  • Propose new methods, tools, or best practices for working with large healthcare datasets
  • At the conclusion of the hackathon, teams will present their solutions to a panel of judges, and top teams will receive prizes.

Pre-Hackathon Workshops (Optional)

To help teams prepare, a series of optional workshops will be held via Zoom from 4:00–6:00 PM on:

  • March 6
  • March 20
  • March 27

These sessions will feature researchers and industry experts discussing real-world challenges in healthcare data engineering. Zoom links will be shared after registration.

Judging Criteria

Projects will be evaluated based on:

  • Understanding of the problem and quality of insights
  • Alignment with personalized healthcare goals
  • Potential impact of the solution
  • Usability and practicality
  • Scalability and adaptability
