I can’t connect to my consultant online. What should I do?

Call the writing center location of your consultant:

     Boca #: 561-297-3498

     Davie #: 954-236-1111

     Jupiter #: 561-799-8561

Your consultant then will lead you through a set of questions to diagnose the problem:  

1) Have you updated Flash Player?

2) Are you Internet Explorer 8?

3) Are you in the same online session as your consultant? (If you scheduled an hour-long appointment, click on the first 30-minute session).

4) Are you and your consultant logged into only one computer? 

5) Did you complete all the log-in steps? Even if you did, repeat them:

    a) Log-into the writing center scheduler at www.fau.edu/UCEW

    b) Click on “My Control Panel” in the upper left

    c) Click on “Meet Consultant Online”

    d) Once the interface opens, click on consultant’s email address

    e) Then, click on Preview Mode

    f) Click on Broadcast Mode

    g) Click on View Cam

 

I can’t hear my consultant. What should I do? 

There are three locations that you should check to adjust volume:

    1. The Monitor: Check the speaker icon on the menu bar in the lower right hand corner or your screen. Make sure the volume is turned up and all “Mute” boxes are blank.

    2. The Flash Player: Right-click the black box in the upper left-hand corner of the Online module.  Then, click on “Settings.” Scroll over and click the different icons and adjust accordingly.

    3. The Headset: Check the volume button on your headset. Volume buttons are typically located on the outside of the earpiece or along the wire. 

 

I still can’t hear my consultant.

Is your headset’s wire plugged into the computer’s headset jack?

 

I can’t see my consultant. What can I do?

Close the online module and your internet browser. Plug in your webcam. Then re-open the internet browser and online module.  Webcams must be plugged in before opening the browser. 

 

I can’t upload my paper. What should I do?

Ask your consultant to review with you the steps for uploading a document:

 

 

Step 1:

    a. Open FAU mail

    b. Click on Drive

    c. On the Left-hand side, click Create

    d. Upload Document

    e.Once document is uploaded you can "share it"

    . Finally, click on “Refresh Buffer”

 

Step 2:

    h. Click Share

    i. Select your uploaded document

    j. Share document using your consultant's email (They will provide it to you)

 

I can’t edit my paper on the screen. What should I do?

Remember that you can only write and record when in “Edit” mode. Only one person at a time can be in “Edit” mode.
