Virtual playbill

Welcome to The Possibilities , a collection of brief encounters that refuse to offer any easy answers or clear resolutions. By design, these plays are meant to provoke and challenge, and each represents a collision of characters in highly charged situations.

Howard Barker’s plays are written in a style that delivers poetic, dense, erotic, and violent language and behavior. Barker calls his theatre the Theatre of Catastrophe — a theatre not intended to soothe but to agitate. It does not seek clarity, but complexity. It sometimes blends in a dark expression of humor, and asks that we, as artists and audience, lean into discomfort and stay there rewarding our attention not with identifiable meaning, but with ambiguity.

The plays of The Possibilities are set in no single time or place but are meant to echo across centuries. They touch on revolutions, empires, wars, and interrogations. Power, sexuality, and the commodification of the body thread through every scene, tangled and inescapable, as do vulnerability, fear, and hope.

In this production, we have used Barker’s short plays to create a challenge for the actor. This challenge pushes the actor to portray unusual characters in extreme situations, with highly charged emotional stakes, and complex language.

This production is the first in a series we are calling “stripped down theatre” where greater emphasis is placed on the actor. We hope you enjoy the world of The Possibilities , and we thank you for entering it with us.

Desmond Gallant

Emilia Borean (The Woman, Second Terrorist, Bookseller) is a senior BA theater major. She is thrilled to be a part of her fourth production in FAU. She was seen in A Chorus Line (Ensemble), 9 to 5 the musical (Maria Delgado), and Xanadu (Ensemble). She hopes you enjoy the show! 

Danny Bieler (The Man, Husband, Corporal)  is a Senior BA in Theatre Performance and is thrilled to be making his acting debut in FAU's production of The Possibilities. He recently completed the Summer Conservatory at the Stella Adler Studio of Acting in New York City. He wants to thank Des and Anna for this opportunity. He also wants to thank his Mom and Dad for their continued love and support.

Katiana "Kat" Ruggiero (The Girl, Child, Peasant, A Second Woman) is a transferring junior (BFA in Performance major). She was born and raised in Pennsylvania, performing through dance, until she moved to South Florida in the 2010s - which is when she discovered her passion for acting. This is Kat's first production at FAU, but her previous credits include Rumors (Claire), Dearly Departed (Suzanne), 12 Angry Jurors (Juror 11), as well as other showcases and short in the area. She is extremely excited to be a part of this cast and hopes to see you at the show! Enjoy! 

Claudia Hammes (The Boy, Third Terrorist, Second Woman, A Woman) is currently a Sophomore BFA Musical Theatre student with a Dance and a Digital Marketing minor. At FAU she has performed: Tartuffe- Flipote, (Understudy Mariane+Madame Pernelle), FAU Opera In Italy, Assistant Choreographer, Firebringer. Other roles include: Little Sally/Urinetown, Ermengarde/Hello Dolly!, Sarah/Company, and Sara/The Theory of Relativity. Next, Claudia will perform in Memento with the Jerusalem Ballet! Valentina Rodriguez (First Soldier, The Old Woman, The Woman)  is a junior BFA Performance student and is so excited to be apart of her first FAU production! She is very proud and elated to perform alongside this incredibly talented group. She would like to thank her Madre, Padre, hermanita, and her boyfriend for their support.

Katalin Rezola (Second Soldier, The Man, First Woman) is a new transfer student in her junior year in the BFA in Performance program and is very excited to be a part of her first FAU production. She wishes you enjoy the show!

Carlie Boxt (Woman, Officer, Officer) is a sophomore BFA student in Performance major and she is so excited to be a part of her first show here at FAU. This is her performance debut in FAU’s program! She can’t wait for you to see the show!

Devyn Llewellyn (First Terrorist, The Young Man, The Official) is a BFA Performance Major and is positively delighted to be a part of her first production at FAU. She was seen in the Owl New Play Festival (Happiness Gym) and backstage in FAU's productions of 1776, Rumors, and Freaky Friday. She so excited to be apart of Stripped Down Theatre and for everyone to enjoy the show!

Olivia Jansen (The Young Woman, Woman, Third Woman)  is a freshman BFA in Musical Theatre Major and can't wait to appear in her first FAU production! Previously, Olivia has performed in shows at her high school such as Mamma Mia (Sophie) and Anything Goes (Hope Harcourt). She most recently performed at the Stephen Sondheim Awards in New Haven, Connecticut as a Best Actress nominee. She wants to thank her family for their constant love and support.

Jayden Terrell (Alexander of Russia, Man, The Man) is a sophmore BFA in Performance major and is honored to be apart of his second production at FAU. He was just seen as Damis in the fall production of Tartuffe! Jayden is eager to share the complexities of human nature through this wonderful show, and thanks his brother kolton for always pushing him to follow his dream of being a performer!

Neveah Metelus (Stage Manager) is a senior continuing to finishing her major in Theater and minor in Dance. She is excited to be crewing her 8th show! Her past shows she’s crewed in were Peter and the Star-catcher (Dresser), Xanadu (Follow Spot), Firebringer (Hair + Makeup/Dresser), Radium Girls (ASM), The Frankenstein Project (Props Crew), Freaky Friday (Light Board Op), and Tartuffe (Wardrobe Head). Jamie Levesque (Lighting Design, Light Board Operator) is a sophomore BFA in Design and Technology major at Florida Atlantic University and is stoked to be a part of her third production. She was seen in 1776 (Light Board Operator) and Tartuffe (Sound Operator). Previous Credits include Boeing Boeing, The Addams Family, and Almost, Maine (Lighting Designer). Jamie would like to thank her friends for their support!

Lumi Ramos (Usher) proudly representing Port St. Lucie County, is a second-year transfer student majoring in Theatre at FAU and is thrilled to be ushering for Florida Atlantic’s 2025 Fall Season! Their acting credits include Legally Blonde (Pilar), The Lightning Thief: The Percy Jackson Musical (Charon and Ensemble), Happiness Gym at TheatreLab (FAU), and BUTC’s Evermore High (Fairy Godmother).
