Stripped Down Studio: Selections from The Possibilities

For its inaugural production, the Stripped Down Studio will present six of the ten short plays that make up The Possibilities by Howard Barker. This series of pieces all feature characters who act against their own interests but who, in so doing, both refine and complicate their humanity. Combining elements of dark comedy and tragedy, Barker creates circumstances that push individuals into extreme conditions that force them to question the limits of logic and rationality.

Pirates of Penzance

Gilbert and Sullivan's comic opera continues to delight audiences with its whimsical tale of duty, love, and piracy. Set on the coast of Cornwall during Queen Victoria's reign, this timeless masterpiece follows the adventures of Frederic, a young man mistakenly apprenticed to a band of tender-hearted pirates. As Frederic attempts to leave his piratical past behind and pursue a romance with the beautiful Mabel, daughter of Major-General Stanley, he finds himself caught in a hilarious web of misunderstandings and obligations. With its memorable characters, witty dialogue, and catchy melodies, including the "I Am the Very Model of a Modern Major-General," The Pirates of Penzance showcases Gilbert and Sullivan's unparalleled ability to blend humor, social commentary, and musical brilliance.

Shakespeare's The Tempest

William Shakespeare’s masterpiece blends magic, betrayal, love, and forgiveness together for an evening of spectacle. Set on a mystical island, the play follows Prospero, the former Duke of Milan, who uses his magical powers to conjure a tempest that shipwrecks his enemies, including his treacherous brother Antonio and King Alonso of Naples. As the story unfolds, Prospero's daughter Miranda falls in love with Ferdinand, the King's son, while Prospero confronts his past and ultimately chooses forgiveness over revenge.

Get ready for the captivating new musical written by acclaimed playwright Deborah Zoe Laufer and featuring a vibrant score by composer Daniel Green. This innovative production reimagines Shakespeare's iconic female characters, including Juliet, Helena, Hermia, Viola, and Ophelia, as they navigate life, love, and identity in a contemporary setting. With a dynamic pop/rock soundtrack, the musical follows these beloved characters as they forge their own paths and challenge traditional gender roles.
