Thomas Shorrock is a distinguished Professor and Chair of the Department of Theatre and Dance at Florida Atlantic University, where he has led the BFA and MFA programs for over twenty-one years. Holding an MFA in Stage Design and Technology from the University of Louisville, Shorrock has established himself as a professional in lighting and sound design across both academic and professional realms. He is an active designer in the South Florida community, having received four Carbonell Award nominations and a recent win for his lighting design in The Secret Garden with Slow Burn Theatre Company. Shorrock’s extensive career includes more than 200 productions for notable theatres such as Palm Beach Dramaworks, Merry-Go-Round Playhouse, Wick Theatre and Costume Museum, MNM Theatre Company, Slow Burn Theatre Company, Theatre Lab, Gablestage, and the Caldwell Theatre Company.

His recent credits highlight his ongoing creative output, featuring work on productions like XanaduThe Frankenstein Project, and Peter and the Starcatcher at Florida Atlantic University, as well as The Last Yiddish Speaker at Theatre Lab. Shorrock’s primary research focuses on lighting and sound design, with additional interests in scenic design and the use of technology to enhance theatrical storytelling. He is committed to advancing the integration of innovative technologies in theatre, aiming to improve communication and audience engagement, and remains an active member of professional organizations including the United States Institute of Theatre Technology (USITT) and the Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC).
