Meet the Team
Cynthia Carrico, MSE, MA
Director
Cynde Carrico holds two Masters Degrees, one of which is a MA in Communication from FAU where she focused on Southern identity and culture within community cookbooks. Current research encompasses several areas of pop culture and rhetorical criticism, ranging the gamut of Multicultural Discourse in Children’s Literature to Authentic Digital Connectivity in the 21st Century. With over 25 years in educational leadership, Cynde has led multiple teams in supplemental services always focusing on motivating, monitoring and managing student success. Her most recent faculty position was at Florida International University where she served as the Lambda Pi Eta honor society advisor. In her limited spare time, she is active with yoga, creative mix media artwork, digital photography, competitive jigsaw puzzling and childrens theater. She is excited to return to FAU and begin her journey with the Speaking Center.
Ava Giacchi
Consultant
Ava Giacchi is a junior at Florida Atlantic University majoring in Communication Studies. With a background in acting since age five, she brings performance and confidence to her role as a Public Speaking Consultant and Leadership Engagement Specialist for Alpha Delta Pi. She aspires to combine her passions for broadcasting and acting while continuing to grow her career in both fields.
Hannah Church
I am a Communications student at FAU with a passion for helping others. Upon graduation in the Spring of 2025, I hope to get a job fundraising for a nonprofit helping children and/or battered women. I am passionate about Owlnouncers because I believe it gives children a chance to get excited about learning; it boosts their confidence in areas like reading and public speaking. I am very grateful to have a positive role in these kids’ lives!
Outside of school, work, and volunteering for Owlnouncers, I enjoy baking, finding peace through nature, and playing my ukelele!
Colin Adams
Webdesign
Colin is a senior at FAU studying for a Bachelor's in Communications Studies. He has experience with photo manipulation software, customer service, and public speaking. Colin's most recent roles include a sales associate role at Lowe's Home Improvement, an Internship with the FAU Owlnouncers as their website redsign, and as a teacher with Senior Tech LLC. In his spare time, Colin likes to practice guitar, spend time with his parents, go to the gym, and work on his computers.
Brooke Haller
Brooke is a senior at FAU, majoring in Communications Studies. She has been the Owlnouncers team's Project Coordinator for over a year now and has had years of experience working with students and kids professionally.
Jose Perez
Jose Perez is a Junior majoring in Communications and minoring in Public Relations. With a background in theater and music, he has learned how important delivery and body language is important in Public Speaking, from the front of a class to standing on a stage. He is also a part of Owlnouncers, an outreach program visiting various elementary schools in the area to teach young students public speaking skills through Readers Theater. Outside of the center, he loves discovering new music, collecting vinyl and cassettes, and practicing and performing around the area with his band. He hopes to help each and every student in any way possible, in pursuit of becoming a public speaker.
