HVAC Monitoring System

HVAC Monitoring System

Overview

Air conditioners are one of the most neglected machineries when it comes to performing any kind of preventative maintenance, even though AC is a part of everyday life. Generally, AC units are expected to be turned on and run all day without any issues, and any issues that can be prevented are not noticed until it is too late. The purpose of our project is to do the work of monitoring the AC unit to detect problems before they become too severe and cause the unit to stop working. Our project consists of two PCB boards, one for the implementation of integrated sensors and the other, a raspberry pi, for the use of machine learning. In collaboration with NovTech of Boca Raton, the PCB sensor board in our design utilizes high quality sensors to collect significant data of the functionality of a commercial and/or consumer HVAC system. Using machine learning, our design can analyze trends in the functionality of an HVAC system and predict potential performance malfunctions. Users will also be able to access HVAC system performance data in real-time and be notified of potential issues to provide preventive maintenance.

Community Benefit

This would most likely benefit companies that own buildings as it would allow them to avoid losing workdays due to an unexpected breaking down of the AC. In residential use cases, this would help avoid discomfort or worse due to a breakdown. Overall, remote HVAC management system will prove both beneficial, cost-effective, and efficient to both commercial and residential users.
