Robotic Utility Pole Inspection Collar (RUPIC)

Overview

Wooden utility poles are commonly used to distribute power and communication lines. A challenge these wooden poles face is rot, which can significantly weaken the health of the pole and put technicians inspecting the pole at risk for injury/death. The Robotic Pole Inspection Collar will determine if a pole is safe to examine.

Community Benefit: Our project seeks to increase the accuracy of results received when testing the structural integrity of wooden utility poles. It also aims to reduce overall maintenance/testing costs for electrical power and telecommunication companies.
