UPLIFT – Portable Patient Lift
Overview
Traditional patient lifts are often bulky, difficult to maneuver, and unsuitable for spaces with limited room, creating challenges for caregivers transferring patients from wheelchairs to adjacent areas. To address these limitations, the UPLIFT – Portable Patient Lift aims to develop a compact, semi-collapsible lifting device capable of safely transferring up to 300 pounds. The design features a telescoping mast driven by a linear actuator, paired with a foldable lifting arm and a powered winch system for controlled, secure patient handling. A rotating aluminum base ensures stability, precision, and maneuverability within tight spaces. This innovative lift significantly enhances portability, safety, and ease of use, benefiting caregivers and patients by providing a practical, efficient solution to patient transfers.
Community Benefit
According to the CDC, approximately 12.2% of adults in the United States have significant mobility impairments, many of whom depend daily on wheelchairs. Transferring these individuals safely often requires caregiver assistance and specialized equipment, which can be cumbersome or unsuitable for compact living spaces. The UPLIFT – Portable Patient Lift addresses this issue by offering a compact, portable, and easy-to-use solution that facilitates safe, efficient patient transfers. By enhancing mobility, safety, and independence, this device significantly benefits both caregivers and the reduced-mobility community, improving overall quality of life.
