Traffic Intersection Simulation
Overview
The goal of this project is to create a realistic environment for an autonomous car that will test its performance and driving on the road. This project focuses on emergency vehicles getting to its destination safely with varying levels of traffic and pedestrians. This is done in the CARLA simulation with the integration of traffic light customization, various levels of traffic, accidents, and other realistic scenarios the vehicle may face. Two custom maps were made for early testing before testing on larger and more complex maps from CARLA.
Community Benefit
As autonomous vehicles become increasingly relevant, prioritizing safety is crucial, especially when considering emergency vehicles such as ambulances. Ensuring autonomous emergency vehicles reach their destinations safely and quickly is essential. With the CARLA simulation and its realistic environment, these vehicles can continue to be tested and improved on their performance. Once ready for deployment, autonomous emergency vehicles have the potential to significantly reduce human error, optimize resource allocation, and respond quickly in unpredictable environments.
