PulmoML : Multiclass Lung Cancer Classification

Project 48

Overview

Pulmo ML is a machine-learning-driven research project designed to discover genetic biomarkers for lung cancer. It leverages advanced machine learning to analyze complex miRNA expression patterns, identifying key biomarkers that may act as oncogenes or tumor suppressors. The system automates data preprocessing, feature selection, and classification to uncover novel relationships between genetic markers and lung cancer subtypes and stages. Developed with Python, MATLAB, and Next.js, Pulmo ML provides researchers with a scalable, efficient tool for advancing lung cancer research and improving diagnostic precision.

Community Benefit

Currently, lung cancer is within the top three most diagnosed cancers and the deadliest cancer by volume. Despite this, lung cancer has a low research and development rate. The high mortality rate of lung cancer is caused in part by difficulties in diagnosis and lack of effective personalized treatment. Pulmo ML tackles both issues by investigating genetic biomarkers that could be used for personalized treatment and providing a diagnostic platform for medical professionals.
