The V.A.C. (Visual Assistance Cane)

Abstract
The goal of this project is to design a cane that can better assist the visually impaired. This design relies on an Intel RealSense D435i Depth Camera to discern the distance of an incoming obstacle. The camera, located in the handle, is connected to a UP2 Raspberry pi that interprets the images and relays the information via a Bluetooth headphone. The V.A.C. is the first iteration for crossing over existing physical object detection canes and modern depth mapping technology. Community Benefit: This will be beneficial for those who are visual impaired and require additional assistance walking in unfamiliar areas.
