Lubanjiswano Cable Suspended Footbridge

Team: Designed Connections

Client: Engineers in Action - Bridge Program

Abstract
Designed Connections has partnered with Engineers in Action (“EIA”) to design and complete the construction of the Lubanjiswano cable suspended footbridge in Eswatini, Africa.  The team is working alongside professional engineers and has the support of four FAU alumni who completed the construction of a similar bridge, the Maphikelela, in 2020. The design plans for the bridge are completed and the team is currently fundraising for the funds required to complete the May 2021 construction of the bridge. This includes materials, manpower, and traveling expenses. The total fundraising goal is $30,000 USD. Community Benefit: This project will ensure that 1,500 individuals from two communities in Eswatini, have safe access to essential services. This will help improve their quality of life and ensure that geography does not determine who has access to opportunities.
