Dreamcatcher: SIDS Prevention Monitor (FAU WAVE funding)

&bnsp;

Abstract
The Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) Prevention Project involves creating a crib attachment device and wearable swaddle that monitors an infant’s position and vitals, and also alerts the parents if a problem is detected. The swaddle includes a small pulse oximeter that reads the pulse rate and oxygen levels of the infant. The device that attaches to the crib includes two artificially intelligent cameras that detect the baby’s face and sleeping position. Community Benefit: Provide parents with an alert system that recognizes when their child is in a potentially fatal situation, and to reduce the amount of SIDS-related deaths overall.
