Biomimetic Undulating Fin UUV

Sponsor: Naval Engineering Education Consortium (NEEC) program

Abstract
Our project builds and tests a dynamically stable Unmanned Underwater Vehicle (UUV) that utilizes bio-inspired undulating fins for propulsion and is able to control its orientation within at least three degrees of freedom. Community Benefit: The undulating fin motion has a minimal impact on environmental disturbances. It operates mechanically clean with a low decibel noise propagation. This is considered significantly less invasive than other types of UUV propulsion methods.
