Autonomous Robotic Vacuum

Sponsored by: Commercial Cleaning Tool Innovation Inc.

Abstract
Our project is the design and development of an easy-to-use robotic vacuum that is not only optimized for “away from home” applications, but it will also require little-to-no interaction with the user. Using SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping), our device will quickly and efficiently map its surroundings, generate a complete coverage path plan for optimal cleaning, detect and avoid obstacles along its path. The Robotic Vacuum will return to its docking station once the navigation task is complete and/or when the battery life is low. Upon return, the Robotic Vacuum will automatically empty its bin into a larger dustbin, which can be disposed of at a later time. Community Benefit: The technical advances in our design are the first of its kind and will set the standard for other robotic vacuums developed in the future.
