Drones & AI: Mapping Invasive Plants in Natural Areas Summer Camp

Civil, Environmental, and Geomatics Engineering

The Drones & AI: Mapping Invasive Plants in Natural Areas Summer Camp 2026 will introduce students to the importance of protecting natural areas and public lands using drones and remote sensing technologies. Campers will learn to identify native and invasive plant species and explore ways to preserve and protect ecosystems. In the second part of the camp, students will explore how drones are equipped with multispectral and hyperspectral cameras that are used to map invasive plants. They will participate in a drone flight demo and learn how machine learning techniques can help classify different types of vegetation. The camp will also include a field trip to the Jupiter Inlet Outstanding Natural Area, where students will experience real-world ecosystems and see these technologies in action:

  • Remote Sensing
  • Drone Based Mapping
  • Geospatial AI
  • Invasive Species of Plants
  • Geomatics Engineering
