CORE PROGRAM PREREQUISITES ( 18 CREDITS )

In addition to all University requirements, including the University foreign language graduation requirement, candidates for the Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts degree must meet the following requirements.

B.A.

BACHELOR OF ARTS WITH CONCENTRATION IN STUDIO ART

The Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Studio Art degree program is designed for a general education in the visual arts. Students are trained in the foundations of art, and encouraged to branch out in all forms of contemporary art and develop individual styles and practices. Studio and seminar experiences are supplemented with field trips, visiting artist lectures, and critiques in order to help students begin to develop their own interests and projects as artists.

Students will choose three areas of interest from the following: Ceramics, Drawing, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture.

B.F.A.

BACHELOR OF FINE ARTS IN STUDIO ART WITH A SPECIFIED CONCENTRATION

The B.F.A program offers a variety of challenges that emphasize the development of each student’s intellectual and artistic vision and goals. Students are trained in the foundations of art and taught to understand and challenge art theories and techniques. Students are encouraged to to create an individualized program of study anchored by one area of interest in Studio Art. Studio and Seminar experiences are supplemented with field trips, visiting artist lectures, exhibition opportunities, and critiques in order to help students pursue their own interests and develop individual projects. These experiences and opportunities will prepare students for advanced study and a career in the art world.

The BFA in Studio Art with a concentration in Ceramics, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, or Sculpture is a specialized degree primarily in one studio art discipline. Students must pass a portfolio review for admission to the BFA.

INTEGRATED AREAS OF STUDY ( 21 CREDITS )

Required courses to be taken along with concentration courses. Core Program Prerequisites and Portfolio Review must be completed prior to registering for the following:

    Additional Media and Art Electives (9 credits)
    Three upper-division courses from Studio Art, Multimedia or Graphic Design courses
    Art History Requirement (6 credits)
    Two upper-division Art History courses; see list of 4000-level courses in the Art History section
    Research Intensive (3 credits)
    Any RI: Advanced Studio Art course
    B.F.A. Senior Seminar (3 credits)
