Graphic Design Internships

What is an internship?

An internship is a professional learning experience that offers meaningful, practical work exposure related to a student's field of study or career interest.

Why is an internship important?

Undergraduate Graphic Design students are encouraged to seek internships to gain real-life experience that can be paired with their degree, preparing them to enter the workforce.

Benefits of an internship:

Earn College Credit

Students can recieve free elective credits for internships (paid or unpaid). Confirm with your advisor where in your program an internship credit might fit.

Building a Portfolio

An internship will provide students with the responsibility over several projects that can then be applied as entries into their portfolio.

Networking & Resume Building Opportunities

Employers are interested in candidates that bring practical experience and proven results. You may even make a connection that leads to a future job opportunity.

Explore Possible Career Paths

Internships allow you to "test-drive" your chosen career to ensure it's the right fit for you. After completing an internship, you may be all the more certain that you've chosen the right path, or you may be inspired to pivot.

Requirements:

  • Internships must be overseen by an educated professional Graphic Designer who provides mentorship and training. The position will not qualify as an internship if there is no professional design supervisor on staff.
  • All internships must be submitted for approval prior to the first week of class. Internship credit cannot be awarded retroactively.
  • Potential employers must submit the Internship Registration Form below.
  • During finals week, the student supervisor must submit the Intern Evaluation Form below for the student to receive credit.
  • In addition to the supervisor's evaluation, students are asked to submit a log that documents their weekly tasks and a 1-page summary of experiential learning.
    • This log should be emailed to art@fau.edu at the conclusion of the internship.
    • A negative evaluation may compromise the ability to receive a passing grade.
