Amy S. Broderick is Professor of Painting and Drawing at Florida Atlantic University. In her studio work, she uses forgotten photographs, discarded office supplies, found maps, and related ephemera to make complex paper compositions. She cuts and weaves each page by hand to make elaborate layered structures and images. Her process marks time’s passing, as forgotten slivers of other people's daily lives coalesce to tell new tales. The resulting work invites viewers to walk between the past and the present, imagining a space where obsolescence and disconnection become the warp and weft of new territories.
Prof. Broderick has exhibited her work in over 200 exhibitions since 2020, including recent solo exhibitions, Office Hours, at Arts Warehouse in Delray Beach and Ledger & Loom, at the Cultural Council of Palm Beach County. She has published articles in national scholarly journals, including The SECAC Review and FATE in Review. She is frequently invited to speak at arts events, including events hosted by the Norton Museum of Art, The Cultural Council for Palm Beach County, and the School District of Palm Beach County. She has also served on the boards of national arts organizations, including the Southeast College Art Conference and the MICA Alumni Council.
Prof. Broderick has won numerous awards recognizing her accomplishments in teaching, scholarly activity, and leadership. At Florida Atlantic University, Broderick has won the University Award for Excellence and Innovation in Undergraduate Teaching, the College of Arts and Letters Master Teacher Award, the College of Arts and Letters Faculty Recognition Award, and the Wilkes Honors College Honors Faculty Fellowship. Broderick has also won the Florida Individual Artist Fellowship, the Florida Artist Enhancement Grant, and the South Florida Cultural Consortium Fellowship for Visual and Media Artists. Her academic leadership was recognized when she won the National Council of Arts Administrators Emerging Art Administrator Fellowship.
Broderick was born and raised in Virginia Beach, VA. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the College of William and Mary, and she earned her MFA in Painting from the LeRoy E. Hoffberger School of Painting at the Maryland Institute College of Art, where she studied with Grace Hartigan and served as Mrs. Hartigan’s teaching assistant.
