Dr. Nicholas Baima is the Chair of the Department of Philosophy. He received his Ph.D. in philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis. He specializes in ancient philosophy, ethics, and the relation between the two. In addition to his work in philosophy, Dr. Baima also enjoys Judo, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and wrestling. In fact, as an undergraduate student at the University of Northern Iowa, he was a member of UNI's NCAA Division 1 wrestling team.
Dr. Baima has several publications in peer-reviewed professional journals such as the Journal of Medicine and Philosophy, Ancient Philosophy Today, the Journal of the History of Philosophy, and the Journal of Value Inquiry. With Dr. Sarah Malanowski, he recently co-authored the book Why It's OK to be a Gamer (Routledge Publishing Company). In the near future, Dr. Baima will be developing a philosophical interpretation of the normative theory is Plato's Laws.
