Benjamin R. JoellaBenjamin Joella has been performing on the double bass for over thirteen years. Mr. Joella attained his Bachelors of Music in performance at the University of Southern California under the instruction of Nico Abondolo and Dennis Trembly. While in Los Angeles, he spent time in the recording studio working for Paramount Studios, Cher, Louis Belson, and "Battlestar Galactica" film composer Bear McCreary. Mr. Joella also performed at the Hollywood bowl premiere of the HBO special: "Band of Brothers." He has performed live with jazz great Wayne Shorter, and the late film composer Michael Kamen.

Mr. Joella earned his Masters of Music degree in performance with Jack Budrow at Michigan State University. While in Michigan, Mr. Joella won a position as section bassist with the Grand Rapids Symphony which culminated in a Mr. Joella’s first Carnegie Hall performance with the symphony for their 75th anniversary season. While in Michigan, Mr. Joella also performed Bottesini Concerto No. 2 for double bass and orchestra with the Mason Orchestral Society.

Mr. Joella has spent a significant amount of time working on smaller ensemble projects ranging from bluegrass to gospel and reaching into the avant-garde with new ensemble works for non-traditional instrumentations such as double bass with saxophone, water jug and accordion. Mr. Joella performs regularly with the Palm Beach Opera and the Florida West Coast Symphony.

As an educator, Mr. Joella teaches double bass for Florida Atlantic University, as well as double bass students of all ages and abilities and has served as clinician for a Michigan State University ASTA clinic.
