Nicole M. Greggs received her Bachelor of Music Education Magna cum Laude from the University of Miami in 1991, after studying two semesters at the Orff Institute & Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. She immediately began her teaching career, split between West Hollywood Elementary & Plantation Park Elementary. In 1993 & 1994, Mrs. Greggs completed Orff Certification Levels 1 & 2 under Jim & Mary Helen Solomon through Jacksonville University, & soon became President of both the Broward Elementary Music Teachers Association & the South Florida Orff Chapter. She completed Phyllis Weikart’s Rhythmically Moving Level 1 Training & in 1994, began coursework for her Master of Arts in Teaching degree from Florida Atlantic University. By 1993, Mrs. Greggs became full-time at Plantation Park Elementary & presented her first district-level workshops. Newly married in 1995, Mrs. Greggs conducted both a children’s choir demonstration recital, & sang a full vocal performance recital program.to complete her Master’s Degree in 1997. She was the Florida’s Singing Sons Training Choir Director from 1994-1998, working with Mr. Jeffri Bantz until the birth of her first child.

Always striving to hone her skills, Mrs. Greggs founded MusicMakers! Summer Camp, an innovative, Orff-based, laboratory-style program, in 1998 in conjunction with the City of Coral Springs Parks & Recreation Department. Over the camp’s 20-Season tenure, Mrs. Greggs has developed over thirty All-State musicians & inspired many more to become music educators or performers. Mrs. Greggs also began hosting music education interns in 1999. To date, she has trained seven music teachers & served as professional educator to three first year teachers. In 2004, she earned National Board Certification in Early/Middle Childhood Music, which she renewed in 2014. Mrs. Greggs co-authored the 1995 Broward County Elementary General Music Curriculum, & developed an electronic curriculum planning tool (ECPT) capable of originating & organizing lesson plans based on the Sunshine State Standards (now updated with the Next Generation Sunshine State Standards, Marzano Strategies, Repertoire & Activities Lists, & Strategies for Special Needs Learners). She has developed both music workbooks & End-of-course Assessment tests for Grades K-5 Music, which develop & measure student mastery of NGSSS content. Mrs. Greggs has presented multiple state and local workshops, including: “Digital Music Curriculum Planning & Assessment”; “Using the Electronic Curriculum Planning Tool”; “Time-Saving Tips for Music Teachers: Making Every Minute Count”; “Some of This, Some of That: 11 Tricks from a Musical Hat”; “Circling the World: Multicultural Folk Dances”; “Developing Creativity Through Music: Evolving from Musical Experience to Understanding & Innovation… Part I: Laying the Foundation with Rhythm & Movement; Part II: Adding the Rest- Melody, Harmony, & Form”; “Elementary Music: Secrets Revealed”; “Some of This, Some of That: 11 More Tricks from a Musical Hat” & “Literature to Lyrics: Composing with Kids”. She has published articles in the Florida Music Director, has had multiple news articles written about her music & camp programs, & maintains her own website, www.musicmakerscamp.com, which includes not only camp information, but also houses pages for the Plantation Park Elementary General Music program, Chorus, Chorus Booster Club, and a Teacher Training Hot Spot. Mrs. Greggs was the 2006 Runner-up for Broward County Teacher of the Year, & was featured on Broward School Beat television show. In 2008, Mrs. Greggs won the prestigious Broward County Arts Teacher of the Year Award, and in 2011 she was named Florida Atlantic University School of Education’s Distinguished Alumnus of the Year.
