Dorothy Gal

Polish-American soprano Dorothy Gal is a professional opera singer and dedicated vocal educator. Hailed as “alluring” by the Houston Chronicle and praised for her “piercing, yet crystalline instrument” by Schmopera, Gal is an alumna of the prestigious Houston Grand Opera Studio and recipient of the Shoshana Foundation’s Richard F. Gold Career Grant.

As a freelance opera singer, Mrs. Gal has performed professionally with Houston Grand Opera, Opera Theatre of Saint Louis, Des Moines Metro Opera, Annapolis Opera, Aspen Opera Center, and Mercury Chamber Orchestra. Her diverse operatic repertoire includes works by Mozart, Verdi, Dvořák, Puccini, and contemporary composers. Her extensive musical background also encompasses art song, chamber music, recital, and concert repertoire, including participation in Marilyn Horne’s “The Song Continues” workshop at Carnegie Hall and Ravinia’s Steans Music Institute.

A second-place winner of Houston Grand Opera’s Eleanor McCollum Competition and first-place winner of the Marcella Sembrich Kochańska Competition, Mrs. Gal has received additional awards and recognition from the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, Butler Opera International Vocal Competition, Tenor Viñas Competition, Gerda Lissner Lieder-Song Competition, and Ada Sari International Vocal Artistry Competition.

Mrs. Gal brings this breadth of professional experience and pianistic abilities to her work as an educator. She currently serves as the vocal instructor of Palm Beach Opera’s Studio program and maintains a private teaching studio in West Palm Beach. Her pedagogical approach emphasizes healthy and sustainable vocal technique alongside expressive communication, developing each singer’s individual artistry in a positive and nurturing environment. Her own training includes study with distinguished pedagogues including Dr. Stephen King, Ruth Falcon, Beth Roberts, and Mark Baker.

She holds a B.M. in Vocal Performance from The New School’s Mannes School of Music in New York City and an M.M. in Vocal Performance from Rice University’s Shepherd School of Music.
