About Owl-to-Owl Tutoring

Much like the Center for Learning And Student Success’s (CLASS) Tutoring program, the Owl-to-Owl (OtO) Volunteer Tutoring program recruits student leaders from across campus who possess the knowledge and skills necessary to be academically successful and train them to become OtO volunteer tutors. OtO tutors are trained similarly to our other tutors and reach various levels of CRLA certification. 

Benefits of becoming an OtO Volunteer Tutor:

  • Earn 35+ volunteer hours and have your hours recorded on your transcripts for future employers, and/or professional or graduate schools to see!
    • 22 tutoring hours (minimum)
      3 hours of shadowing
      5 hours beginning-of-semester training
      1 hour of self-reflection and supervisory evaluation
      2 hours of semester training/workshops1 mid-semester
      1 end of semester
      2 hours of Canvas Discussions (includes time for readings, 0.5 hours for each x 4 discussions)

  • Learn how to be an effective “academic coach” for students
  • Have the opportunity to learn more about different offices/services across campus

  • Receive tutor training that can be included on résumés which can increase your odds in finding employment as a tutor elsewhere!

  • Gain experience to increase your chances of being selected to join our team as a paid tutor/SIL the following semester

 

Interested in becoming an OtO Volunteer Tutor?

Here’s a breakdown of the process:

  1. To apply to participate in the OtO Program in Spring 2022, fill out the application by 11:59 pm on Wednesday, December 8th.
  2. If selected as a candidate, we will be contacting you via email to set up an interview that will be held during the first week of classes.
  3. Shortly thereafter, you will be notified on whether you have been selected as an OtO Volunteer Tutor
  4. Please see the program schedule for Spring 2022 below to get a better idea of the required program components such as the meetings and trainings:
