Audition Elements:

Ensemble auditions allow us to place you into an ensemble where you will find the most reward, and should take several hours to prepare, demonstrating your finest musicianship. While not required, you may perform additional selections beyond the excerpts linked below including brief etudes, solo sections, or excerpts from wind ensemble or orchestral literaturen that demonstrate your abilities and artistry. NEW: All auditioners will perform the simple folk song O Waly Waly found on each audition page, adding interpretations of tempo, articulation, phrasing, and nuance to demontrate your distinctive musical personality. You may also change the key or register to suit you, leaving the structure intact.

Audiiton Process:

Auditions take place August 17th and 18th, the weekend before school begins, in-person in room AL 260 on the Boca Raton campus of Floridna Atlantic. lease check in 10 minutes before your scheduled time. A sign-up for the August 17-18 audiitons will be found here in coming weeks. If you are unable to attend auditions in-person, contact Dr Prescott directly and we will find a solution. (kpresco2@fau.edu). Audition results will be posted Monday morning, August 19th. You wll then have five days to add/ drop the ensmebles into which you have been assigned.

Do not overthink this. Do your best to prepare this music and audition. I simply want to hear you play your best in order to place you for the coming term. This will be an amazing year for the Wind Ensemble, including a residency from composer John Mackey, another short tour, and a visit from the New York Philharmonic's Joseph Alessi! You want to be a part of this!
