Flow visualization is a method that uses UV light and fluorescent dye to observe the flow around a model. In our case, it’s used to study the hydrodynamics of marine animals. This research focuses on how benthic stingrays utilize the sea floor to maneuver their environment and the applications towards underwater vehicles. So far, the results show that the body generates a negative lift that helps keep them close to the ground, reduces drag and increases energy efficiency.
