Bubble Departure in Micro-Scale — This video captures the mesmerizing departure of vapor bubbles from a specially engineered fin surface during nucleate boiling in a micro-scale with a high-speed camera. At first glance, the rhythmic growth, coalescence, and release of bubbles resemble an abstract choreography in motion, but beneath this beauty lies critical science. My research explores how surface geometry — such as fin structures — affects bubble dynamics, including growth rate, departure diameter, and frequency. By studying these processes with advanced techniques like Laser-Induced Fluorescence (LIF) thermometry, we uncover how microscopic interactions between heat, liquid, and vapor influence macroscopic heat transfer. These insights have real-world implications for improving cooling technologies in power generation, electronics and renewable energy systems, where efficient thermal management is essential. What appears to be art in motion is also a pathway toward sustainable engineering solutions.
