Heart Failure Detection Device

Overview

Heart Failure Detection device is a multi-factor monitoring biomedical device that uses a variety of readily available sensors integrated to deliver the metrics. Early detection of off-normal heart parameters have statistically shown to prevent fatalities and even hospitalization. Hence this device acts as a primary diagnostic tool for patients with pre-existing heart conditions. The device consists of four major components- thoracic impedance sensor, (PMOD AD5933) ECG sensor (AD8232), heart rate sensor (MAX30105) and motion detection/ accelerometer sensor (ADXL362). The sensors are supported by Arduino MKR microcontroller and the communication protocol is based on HC-06 Bluetooth module. The entire assembly is developed on a 4-layer PCB that will be powered by a lithium-ion  battery. The device is designed to be portable, user-friendly, lightweight, durable and cost-effective.

Community Benefit

Millions of patients with heart conditions go through unforeseen and preventable hospitalization due to improper monitoring of crucial heart metrics or absolute lack of monitoring thereof. This device presents a solution for all those problems and saves the patient time and money by providing easy access to these parameters.
