NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC)

NASA Human Exploration Rover Challenge (HERC)

Overview

This challenge involves two male and female students operating the rover on a demanding half-mile track miming various landscapes, such as asteroids and ancient streambeds. The rover's design must be compact, lightweight, and efficient. Team 4 must make real-time decisions about which objectives to pursue and abandon while operating under a virtual eight-minute oxygen supply. The team will compete with other groups, conduct scientific experiments, and collect liquid samples critical to the mission's success. This challenge inspires Team 4 to design a multi-purpose tool capable of fulfilling various tasks.

Community Benefit

The rover's capabilities were tested and evaluated rigorously and meticulously. The three principal assessments, including forward motion, cross-country traversing capabilities, and multi-tool utilization, provided critical insights into the rover's performance and functionality.
