CamCount

CamCount

Overview

People counting is important for the general management and overall security of large buildings. However, people counting devices are often overshadowed by their high cost of equipment, required infrastructure, and complicated installation. CamCount seeks to remedy this problem for the FAU Library by providing an affordable people counting system with as few compromises as possible. By using a state-of-the-art, open-source AI model alongside an efficient platform, CamCount can accurately deliver real-time metrics all in one compact package.

Community Benefit

CamCount was able to fulfill its goal of being a structured people counting solution with a fully working pipeline for the front entrance of the FAU Library. The system can provide a real-time count of the number of people in the library on a day-to-day basis, which is an important piece of information for library staff and management to have – giving them a better picture of expected book checkout volume and general occupancy knowledge. Moreover, the system will prove useful for library staff by helping them with efficient event planning and shift scheduling to match expected student volume. CamCount was created with the ability of being widely applicable to any environment and was produced with scalability in mind so more cameras can be connected to the pipeline in the future.
