S-29 Spillway Structure

Overview

The S-29 Spillway Structure is a water control structure located just east of Biscayne Blvd (US-1) and north of 163rd St. in North Miami Beach, Fl. The spillway is at the outlet of the C-9 Canal and its purpose is to control water surface elevation in the C-9 basin and regulate discharges to the Biscayne Bay. O.W.L Engineering relocated and designed a new spillway structure because sea level rise and deterioration on the structure has affected its functionality.

Community Benefit: The new S-29 design will be able to discharge the necessary amount of water downstream of the basin to provide long term flood protection to the 34,000 acres of land upstream of the spillway during any major storm event as well as preventing the downstream waters from reversing into the canal and causing flooding.
