Material Handler Robot

Sponsored by: Florida Power & Light (FPL)

Abstract
In a typical FPL distribution center, about half of all labor hours are spent traveling to and from a pick face. The purpose of this project is to build a material handler robot capable of achieving long term autonomy by implementing an automated docking procedure to improve efficiency and reduce labor costs. Our material handler robot focuses on processing customer requests by identifying, locating and delivering materials to a customer service desk for inventory. In addition, the autonomous charging feature helps replace manual operations thereby also reducing workload. Community Benefit: Implementing an automated material handler robot improves the response capabilities and decreases the time spent servicing the more than 5 million FPL customer accounts in Florida.
