Prof. Kaisar is the director of the Freight Mobility Research Institute (FMRI), which received a five-year, $7 million award from the United States Department of Transportation to improve Florida’s and the nation’s mobility of people and goods. FMRI is a Tier 1 University Transportation Center housed in the Department of Civil Environmental and Geomatics Engineering within Florida Atlantic University’s College of Engineering and Computer Science. The FMRI is an FAU led partnership with the University of Florida, University of Memphis, University of Minnesota (Minneapolis), Portland State University, Texas A&M University (College Station), and Hampton University. The primary goal of the Institute is to help strengthen the nation's economic competitiveness.

Kaisar is an associate professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatics Engineering, and the Director of the Multimodal Intelligent Transportation Systems Laboratory. His main expertise and interests are in the areas of freight transportation and logistics, simulation, emergency response, infrastructure resilience, supply chain security, and ITS. He is a leading freight mobility and transportation management expert at both the national and international levels. In 2017 he was selected as FAU’s Researcher of the Year, and in 2013 as FAU’s Outstanding Undergraduate Teacher. In the last 10 years, Kaisar has managed research projects sponsored by Federal Transit Administration, Federal Emergency Management Agency, Florida Department of Transportation, U.S. Department of Transportation and the Department of Homeland Security. He has published more than 150 papers, and he has supervised to graduation more than 32 Ph.D. and M.S. students. Kaisar is member of the Editorial Boards of national and international journals such as the IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) the premier journal in ITS.
