The Duff Family Library
The Duff Family Library of printed works focused on Pre-Columbian Art and Archaeology is a welcome enrichment of the educational resources of FAU and our department due to the generous donation of Robert Duff and family. This collection of materials is the result of more than 50 years of focused effort and reflects Mr. Duff’s intense interest in Latin American art, archaeology, and aesthetics. The library consists of publications in the form of books, monographs, pamphlets, and auction catalogs. The volumes span 10 languages and decades of groundbreaking exhibitions and study. Overall, the library encompasses an excellent representation of archaeological academic scholarship and finely photographed images of pre Columbian ceramics, textiles, and other artifacts from the past two centuries.
Mr. Duff began his work with the art of the indigenous peoples of South America in the mid 1970s. Traveling extensively, he collected academic and commercial work regarding the art and archaeology of the Andean and wider Latin American regions. He hopes that his gift will awaken in a new generation of students the passion he felt for the brilliance of the ancient cultures of South America.
The Duff Family Library of Pre-Columbian Archaeology and Art is housed in the Department of Anthropology at Florida Atlantic University, Room SO 182. The materials are non-circulating, but the department is open to interested visitors and scholars by appointment. The Duff Family Library’s lists of materials is below. If you wish to visit the collection, contact Professor Valentina Martinez at vmartine@fau.edu.
